Sun May 31, 2009, 9:43 PM
Hello all! It's been a while, hasn't it? :)

Well, as promised, the comic has finally begun. You can read it here at DevArt, or go to:

Have a new entry.

Sat Jan 24, 2009, 1:44 AM
Mostly because the previous journal was so damn huge on the new DA layout, it was just ridiculous.

Not much is happening with me - our project this term is about packaging, so be prepared to see some really exciting packaging here soon! Oh man! Packaging!

Really excited about getting my custom shoes from =lolitaAgogo soon :3

Oh! And I'm getting in sight of my 10k hits mark! Free sketch for whoever catches it and screengrabs it for me :)

Nomnomnom survey~

Sat Aug 30, 2008, 1:07 PM
A few of my homies have done this quiz, so I'm going to do it - and pretend I didn't make that last journal entry, as I seem to have waaay more work to do and no free time. Again.

1. When did you first acknowledge that you could draw well, or decided you wanted to learn to draw?
I used to sit next to this girl called Georgia at school, and she was really good at drawing - loads of different things. I was, frankly, crap. But I really wanted to draw - so I started. Was still crap for a number of years - one of my art teachers told me to stick to English, and years later I didn't do well at my at GCSE. But look at me now, a A-Level in Fine Art and working on a degree at Coventry. So there - live your dreams, kids! *points, wink*
((Although I currently work full time as a article writer and proof reader, so that teacher was probably right.))

2. Is there anything 'deviant' about your art, as the site's name would imply?
Er~ I don't know. I like the occasional nipple and unrealistic proportions, but I'm not a deviant, really ^^; I'd love to do something more gruesome, but I have the one main sketchbook currently, and I like it when people look through it - so something a bit scary might be.. awkward.

3. A video game company has put you in charge of designing a lead character for a platformer title. What have you created?
Some sortof female mutant type. wings, tentacles - translucent skin, something like that. with a completely different look - curvy but no Lara Croft, and with a tongue as sharp as a razor blade.

4. You just found out a 12-year-old has been heavily referencing your characters, perhaps even tracing them. What do you do?
Report them to DA staff. Bwahahhahahaha~
Well, I don't know, really. Ask them if they'd credit me please in their descriptions, and if they turn out to be horrible, then report them.

5. Would you feel comfortable if your parents viewed your Deviantart gallery, or had it bookmarked?
Not really - they've seen me draw enough times, there's nothing really dodgy here :)

6. Do you view your Deviantart account as your online professional/college portfolio? A site through which you seek critique/improvement? A social network? (All are valid.)
I see Deviantart as more of a social thing good for critique - and I can dump everything here :3 My personal website is more exclusive, and I'm trying to maintain an aura of vague professionability there.

7. What would it take to get you to draw porn? For those who already draw porn, why do you draw it?
I draw nudes - but not porn. I think it wouldn't take much for me to draw porn, I just really haven't wanted to. I'll probably have to make some Clive porn at some point for Justine.

8. You are hired to do illustration/graphic work for a company you've hated since you were a child. For example, someone who grew up a fan of DC comics and hates Marvel is offered a job working on one of Marvel's major titles. Do you turn the job down?
Hell no, experience is experience! I wouldn't have to work with them forever.

9. Do you like fan art? If so, what do you look for in fan work? What makes it 'art' for you?
I'm partial to a bit of Final Fantasy fanart. But I don't go mad over it. It has to be well drawn, or coloured, or imaginative - I'm not keen that a scrawled out 10 min sketch of Naruto will get more favs and comments than something people spend all day on.

10. Everyone makes a big deal about 'style.' How do you define style?
That's a toughie - I guess it's what makes you unique and recognisable. Like someone can take a look at a picture and know who it's by without looking at the watermark. I don't think I have my own style yet, but I'm working on it :)

11. On a related note, how important is personal style for an artist? Should an artist's style be versatile, or would compromising their style to pander to a certain audience make them 'sell outs?'
I think an artist should draw how they want, and give the middle finger to those who say they don't like it - for every person that dislikes it, there will be another that loves it.

12. What would your ideal job as an artist/illustrator be?
I'd love to work on the team that did all the character and costume design for Lord of The Rings - that would be my dream job. Otherwise, I'd love to do game conceptual art or comic pencils.

13. How do you feel about Western/English-language comics being made to read right-to-left as opposed to the traditional left-to-right (like untranslated/unflipped manga)?
It's all a bit "try-hard" why try to be something it really isn't? Seems a bit sad and desperate - I think if you make anything you shouldn't change your inherant stlye just to conform to whats popular.

14. How important do you think school/training is for art/illustration?
Really important in the view of discipline and life drawing and learning key skills you wouldn't otherwise do - I know I've gotten loads better purely because ive been made to draw things I'd never draw for fun!

15. Who would be your desired target audience if you were to make a comic/animated project?
I'd want it to appeal to a large range - I love the "What's Michael" series of Japanese comics - something funny and universal. But my Kaos comic is more for young adults.

16. You've been hired to draw a mascot for a company that you feel is a blatant racial stereotype. Do you refuse the job? Do you try to design the character in a way that lessens this factor? Do you just accept it as a job to do and the character's portrayal is the company's responsibility?
I don't think I'd want that sortof blot on my record.

17. What company would you absolutely die to work for? Or, what character/series would you love to work on/revive if given the option by the original creators?
Lucas Arts, Bethesda (the Oblivion people) - anything fantasy based. I used to think I would love to work for Sony or Square, but I don't now.

18. You're working on a comic/animation/etc that is auto-biographical. Do you base the plot completely on the actual events/characters? Or do you use new characters and settings to retell the events?
I'd do my best to make it hard to know who it's about without knowing them - change names and looks and that. You never know how you can upset people, and it's not worth it.

19. Would you hire a writer/scripter to work on your own original comic/animation idea? Or would you want to be in control of every aspect of your creation?
I HATE the thought of someone smug and controlling changing things, so no. I love critique, and often bounce ideas off close friends, who tell me straight if I'm being a thickie, but not a stranger.

20. What is the best advice you could offer to an aspiring artist?
Draw as much as you can, and draw what's around you - make a collection of cuttings of your favourite models and photos, and if you can go to life drawing. Just keep at it - you don't need fancy kit to be an artist - just dedication.

21. How do you feel about having fans of your work? How far can a fan openly love your work before they start to irritate you?
I'd love fans! But I do value my privacy, and I could never be one of those artists that lets themselves be pestered in instant messages online. At cons, yeah, but never so much that it becomes something sinister.

22. Your favorite artist puts out a comic/animation/etc that you feel really, really sucks. Do you resell it, or keep it just because you like the art(ist)?
I'd keep it! I might not have it on the best shelf for all my favourites, but I'd support the artist.

23. How much money would you invest (travel, admission, etc) to meet your all-time favorite artist?
I don't think I have a favourite living artist, apart from tattooists - and I would travel all across the plant to meet them and have something tattooed. Kids, if your going to have something permanently inked on your flesh then make it bloody good.

24. What would you use a booth in a convention's 'Artist alley' for?
Promotions and meeting people and other artists. I doubt I'd make much, or even cover travel and costs :)

25. What one factor immediately makes you dismiss/run away from another Deviantartist's gallery?
Obvious traces and vectors, cliched anime, masses of the one subject matter or artists completely up their own bum.

26. You now have children who are interested in art. In what ways do you support their interest? Do you encourage them to work in the same field as you?
I'd let them do it if they like it. I'd never force art on children, but I'd support them fully.

27. You've just ended a very popular and financially successful project. Do you feel comfortable enough to continue living off of its success, or would you immediately want to start a new project?
I can't stop when it comes to work - I get really bored. :)

28. Say you take on the new project. Would you feel comfortable making potential flops because of your previous success/financial stability? Or would the pressure still be on?
Taking risks is always fun :3 I wouldn't take on anything that was crap, just for money, though.

29. Let's say you've become a successful artist with lots of freetime. Would you indulge in a second career/hobby? If so what?
I'd probably do more exercise, or something outside. Maybe learn to cook properly.

30. Would you rather Devwatch a consistently amazing/established artist, or an unknown developing artist?
I love watching my deviant friends develop, best. Although looking at established works is lovely, for the wow factor, its awesome watching people you know and have watched for a while get better.

31. People are making you fan art. Awesome! But at what point do you stop acknowledging/favoriting a piece of fan art? What are your limits? (Fetish art, fan characters, etc)
That is awesome! I think if they started to pair them up and make over the top porn, then I'd have to draw the line. Especially if they violate Marie. >o

32. Do you feel that if someone critiques your work, they're obligated to balance out the criticisms with praise?
Not really - you have to be cruel to be kind after all.

33. Your gallery is popular because of fan art, and your original works don't get much attention. Does this bother you?
Yup! This is why I don't do much fan art, its a bit depressing.

34. You find out your favorite artist draws porn. Do you think "Awesome, more art to drool over!", or do you lose a lot of respect for them?
Por, for the sake of porn = maybe. Arty porn = awesome, creepy wtf is that porn = not awesome.

35. How severe an offense do you find recolors/traces to be?
I think as long as there is credit to the original artist, then it's alright. Its once they start selling the images as prints or claiming it was all theirs when there should be something done.

36. Of all your characters to have fan art of, which would you be the most picky about?
Marie - She is my favourite, and I relate to her a little.

37. Your significant other doesn't like one of your characters/story ideas. How much do you take this into consideration?
Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion ;) I'd hear him out and look at it from both angles, but after all is said and done, it'd be my character or story.

38. Do you think anyone can learn to draw, or that you have to be born with the skill?
Everyone can learn to draw, I'm living proof :3 (tho I don't claim to be any good!)

39. Thinking about your old art, is there anything you're ashamed of and hope will never see the light of day?
Oh yes. I have folders of old stuff that is so hideous. :S

40. This is the end, I can't think of another questions. I'd quite like a cup of tea, tho.

Kaos - The Great Renaming

Fri Jun 13, 2008, 3:13 AM
So, avid watchers will know I've been working on a webcomic for a little while, and mostly just designing the characters. Now I've decided all the characters must have a real "born with" name, like you and I (this'll make sense if you know what the comic is about ;))

So, I ask you all to help me name the Kaos angels:

Starting with:

Kaos ([link]) ([link]) is:

Pestilence ([link]) ([link]) is:

Faith is:

Innocence ([link])([link]) is:

Science ([link]) ([link]) is: MARIE (I like this name :))

Luck ([link]) is: FELICITY

Love is :

Health is:

Fate is:

Peace([link]) is:

War ([link]) is:

Death ([link]) is:

Lust ([link]) is:

Life is:

So here is your chance to help name my characters for the comic (if I like the name, that is ;)).
(A couple of these characters do very little in the comic, apart from being *there*, so don't worry about the amount)
